Important Notice:
We are doing something a little different for our September meeting.  We will be having our meeting on
Sunday, September 25th, 2016 in Serbin, Texas

For those that don't know where Serbin, Texas is located, (I had to look it up too) it is located midway between Bastrop and Brenham, about 7 miles from Giddings.  This will be very convenient to our eastern members as well as some of the HABA group.  Instead of a "Trade Item" we would like to suggest a donation of a forged item to their silent auction.

This is going to be a great event, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Balcones Forge is a non-profit organization and an affiliate of the Artist-Blacksmith's Association of North America (ABANA). Our organization provides opportunities for its members to grow and learn through interaction with other professional and hobbyist blacksmiths through monthly meetings and special events, as well as access to an extensive library of books and videos. The organization also strives to educate the public about blacksmithing through demonstrations at many Central Texas events.

Balcones Forge members often donate their time to demonstrate at public events around Texas. Examples of events members have demonstrated at are Pioneer Days and Founders Day in Fredericksburg, the Wurstfest School Days event at Conservation Plaza and the Folk Fest in New Braunfels, the Texas Natural and Western Swing Festival in San Marcos, various events at Zilker Botanical Garden in Austin, and at the Texas Folk Life Festival in San Antonio. Members also demonstrate at Mission Espada in San Antonio many weekends.

Balcones Forge and its members have restored three historic blacksmith shops throughout Texas. First, members rebuilt the stone forge at the Pioneer Museum's blacksmith shop in Fredericksburg. Many tools were made and donated to the shop. Then, the historic forge and bellows at Mission Espada in San Antonio were created and tools donated. Most recently, the stone forge at the blacksmith shop at Zilker Botanical Garden in Austin was rebuilt and new security gates created and installed.
