TREADLE TORCH PLUMBING
(Add hard plumbing to provide rigid support for the pilot light.)

Parts required:

One - 1/4" NPT to 1/8" NPT Brass reducer
One - 1/4" Brass "Tee"
One - 1/4" x 1-1/2" Brass Nipple
2 - 1/4" 90 Brass Elbows
2 - 1/4" Close Nipples
1 - 1/4" x 9" to 10" Nipple (black iron pipe unless you can find brass) or 2 - 1/4"x 4" Nipples with a 1/4" coupling = 9"

1) Remove acetylene inlet fitting (item 10) from gas saver valve (GSV) and set aside for re-installation later.

2) Remove pilot light assembly (item 18 or 19) from pilot tube, set aside. Remove the pilot tube (item 17) and mark the end that was installed in the GSV (see parts diagram below).

3) Cut the end of the pilot tube that was installed in the GSV ¼" up from where the hex starts above the threaded end. (approx. 1" overall length) This small end will become the plug. Clean all burrs from both ends.

4) Solder or braze closed the hole in the top (hex )of the small piece to make the plug. This can be re-installed in the GSV after it cools down.

5) If you have a lathe or drill press available turn down about 1/8"-3/16" of the other half of the pilot tube where it was cut to approximately 5/16" (fits inside of the 1/8" end of the 1/8" to ¼" reducer).

This makes it easier to center the pilot tube in the reducer.

Solder or braze these parts together. MAKE SURE THE PILOT ASSY. IS REMOVED BEFORE YOU SOLDER/BRAZE THESE TOGETHER SO AS TO NOT DAMAGE THE SEALS. Set aside to cool.

After part has cooled install pilot assy. onto pilot tube.

6) NOTE: THREAD SEALER MUST BE USED ON ALL JOINTS TO PREVENT LEAKS

7) Assemble one (1) close nipple into GSV where the acetylene fitting was removed. Onto this install the "Tee" and the acetylene fitting that was removed in step 1 so that the side fitting of the "Tee" is pointed away from the GSV. Install ¼" x 1-1/2" nipple into the "Tee", followed by one (1) of the 90 fittings. Tighten so that the opening in the 90 is horizontal and pointed towards the torch hanger (lever, item 11). Install a ¼" x 4" nipple, coupler and the second ¼" x 4" nipple and the other 90 fitting. Tighten all so that the opening in the 90 is pointed straight up towards the torch hanger. Install the other close nipple followed by the reworked pilot tube and pilot assembly.

8) TEST FOR LEAKS BY APPLYING A MIXTURE OF DISH WASHING DETERGENT AND WATER TO ALL JOINTS AND FITTINGS WITH HOSES CONNECTED AND BOTTLES ON.

9) ENJOY
